Cruise Ships Expected To Return Mid-to-Late Summer

Cruise Ships Retuning

This is fantastic news, we are so happy to report that cruise ships are expected to return mid-to-late summer. Port Canaveral CEO Captain John Murray said during a recent Commission Meeting, "it's starting, we're going to be starting sometime in mid-to-late summer."  Murray also highlighted the significant progress being made, including vacations for optimistic crew members and also working with health authorities and cruise lines.

John Murray was optimistic on the return and reopening of the cruise line industry. There were some important comments on the CDC approval of port agreements. The approvals are a major part of the process when it comes to cruise ships being able to start again.

"All of the cruise lines are ready to get started, but first they’ve got to finalize port agreements, and then these have to be reviewed by the CDC. I will say that it came out in last night’s news that Royal Caribbean filed their application for Miami — ours has already been filed as well. But they did hear yesterday that the Miami application was approved by the CDC."

Miami is Testing Cruises in June

According to parts of the CDC return guidelines, cruise lines that don't plan to sail fully vaccinated, must sail test cruises with volunteer passengers, in order to practice the new protocols. However, if a cruise line wants to, or plans to sail with everyone full-vaccinated then they don't need to take this step of practicing the new protocols.

"Revenue passenger sailings will only occur after successful simulated sailings, that’s coming. First simulated sailing in Miami is scheduled for the latter part of June.” Murray said at the commission meeting. This is great news for cruise lines and for the industry as a whole. It's been a rough year and hearing this news that things will return to normal or a new normal is great news.

New Terminal at Orlando International Airport

Welcome to Orlando International Airport's New Terminal

The Orlando International Airport's new terminal has reached a new milestone in it's construction. Terminal C is now 75 per cent complete and will have 15 new gates, which will help to alleviate the volume of passenger traffic that the airport currently deals with. This new terminal will also be able to host 20 planes and 10-12 million passengers.

This is big news for those that travel for not only business but for leisure as well. Since the Orlando International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the area. This is good news and there are many experts who agree.

"It gives us the chance to spread the airlines out, the capability to bring more service. By having the south terminal down there, we could use those gates right now. That would help relieve some of the congestion we have right now, and we aren't even fully back to post-COVID." Says Tom Draper, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authorities Chief of Operations.

Tourism and Travel in Orlando

The good news here, other than the fact that there will be more room at the airport, is that tourism is returning to Orlando. According to economists, travel is returning even though tourism isn't quite back to its pre pandemic levels. This has had a ripple effect on the toursim and hospitality industry. It's been a rough year with the pandemic causing the industry to halt, but seeing it coming back to life is promising.

Dr Frank Fishkind, President of Fishkind Litigation Services says, "This is the biggest industry in this community. It is not only the biggest employer, it's the biggest in-direct employer. And it drives other things, like conventions...they will come back as this recovery progresses on the leisure side."

Fishkind also states that conventions will take time to return, unlike business travel that might take longer to return to normal. He also mentioned that they've seen a "structural change" when it comes to business travel, and that it might not fully return for many years to come. However, the leisure travel component in Orlando is a lot larger. It'll overwhelm the slowing that was caused by the pandemic.

Leisure Travel to Increase

It was also pointed out by Dr. Fishkind, that leisure travel is increasing and that theme parks are continuing to revamp and adapt to COVID-19 measures. Each theme park has set out it's own regulations and measures based on CDC guidelines, we recommend that you review them before booking your resort or heading to one of the many parks in the area.

"I think we're going to see these numbers rebound. I feel really positive. I think because of the pent up demand for travel, we're going to see numbers this summer which will rival two years ago. Those theme parks continue to invest billions of dollars and expect, and will get more tourists. Remember, Universal is building a whole new park." This is all good news and even more reason to be excited about this new south terminal at Orlando International Airport.

Cruise Tips Part 4: Getting Back Home

Wednesday, October 17, 2018     unknown      Orlando Travel Tips  Ground Transportation  Cruise Vacations

Avoiding the stress of disembarking and remain in control of your vacation by using a private transportation provider. In this blog post, the crew at Ace Luxury offer their best cruising tips gathered from 35 years of experience transporting cruise guests to Port Canaveral.

To continue enjoying the last hours of your cruise do some preparation on the last night. If you don’t have a flight soon after docking you relax and take your time leaving.

Tip #1: Check All Nooks and Crannies

Check under beds for that missing flip flop, often a piece of clothing becomes caught behind the drawer. Look behind couches and under couch cushions for items left behind, such as loose change, jewelry.

Look over the bathroom for any personal items you want to keep. Most of the cruise ships have a safe in each room where you can store your valuables. Usually in your safe you’ll keep; passports, jewelry, cash and or travellers checks. Make sure you check and recheck the safe for your property.

Tip #2: Prepare for Disembarkation the Night Before

To avoid the stress of filling out forms at the last minute, the night before disembarking, prepare yourself to go through customs. Make sure you have all the paperwork filled out and declare any items of value that you must report. This will help avoid the hassle while also trying to get everyone off the ship.

Go over the printout of your onboard account when it is delivered the final night of the cruise. If there are any mistakes you will have to go to the reception desk and settle your account. The lines may be shorter if you go right away instead of the morning of disembarking. To avoid any last minute surprises, check your account regularly throughout the cruise.

If you have luggage service make sure you reserve the time and place where your luggage can be found for pick up. Ask when and where you can collect your liquor purchases that were stored for you during the trip. Some cruise lines do not allow off ship purchased liquor to be held in the cabin.

Tip #3: Prepare to Disembark

Disembarking is not as easy as just walking off the ship as you would in a hotel. There are a lot of procedures to follow and may seem daunting and confusing. If you prepare the exit the last night of the cruise you will have a much smoother disembarkment.

There’s no need to stress where you parked your car after the relaxing cruise you just took. Continue your vacation and remain in control by using Ace Luxury Transportation. When you need a ride from the ship to other accommodations, schedule your Ace Luxury driver to come pick you up.
