Cruise Ships Retuning
This is fantastic news, we are so happy to report that cruise ships are expected to return mid-to-late summer. Port Canaveral CEO Captain John Murray said during a recent Commission Meeting, "it's starting, we're going to be starting sometime in mid-to-late summer." Murray also highlighted the significant progress being made, including vacations for optimistic crew members and also working with health authorities and cruise lines.
John Murray was optimistic on the return and reopening of the cruise line industry. There were some important comments on the CDC approval of port agreements. The approvals are a major part of the process when it comes to cruise ships being able to start again.
"All of the cruise lines are ready to get started, but first they’ve got to finalize port agreements, and then these have to be reviewed by the CDC. I will say that it came out in last night’s news that Royal Caribbean filed their application for Miami — ours has already been filed as well. But they did hear yesterday that the Miami application was approved by the CDC."
Miami is Testing Cruises in June
According to parts of the CDC return guidelines, cruise lines that don't plan to sail fully vaccinated, must sail test cruises with volunteer passengers, in order to practice the new protocols. However, if a cruise line wants to, or plans to sail with everyone full-vaccinated then they don't need to take this step of practicing the new protocols.
"Revenue passenger sailings will only occur after successful simulated sailings, that’s coming. First simulated sailing in Miami is scheduled for the latter part of June.” Murray said at the commission meeting. This is great news for cruise lines and for the industry as a whole. It's been a rough year and hearing this news that things will return to normal or a new normal is great news.
